About the event

Please mark your calendars for Thursday, May 16 as we celebrate our Annual fundraiser which has a different spin this year! You are invited to our First Annual Taste of the World event to be held at our location on Dubuque Street. The event will include dishes from countries represented at our school, along with displays and presentations about these native lands by our students. Raffle and silent auction items will also be available. This ‘drop-in’ event is sure to be fun and informative!

We are requesting your support through ticket purchases, donations for our silent auction, the purchase of an advertisement in our Passport, and other opportunities. This event is meant to showcase our students’ accomplishments in celebration of their native lands.

As a new supporter or a longtime donor, your gifts have the power to make a lasting impact on our student’s lives. Just this week, one of our students landed her ‘dream job’ as a dental assistant in Epping. Mayra came from Mexico two years ago with her husband and young child. A trained Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry, Mayra began to study with us four days a week to learn the English language. Over time, and with the help of Sr.’s Pauline and Norma, Mayra made good progress! As a result of a work-related injury, her husband had to leave his job, and Mayra was forced to leave our school last June and take on two jobs for the past several months. Struggling to make ends meet, Mayra was feeling hopeless and tired.

Just today, Mayra visited the Center after being offered a position as a dental assistant; her dream job! She will begin studying for her degree in dental medicine in a little over a year. We know that you are passionate about improving the lives of our students by leading them to a better way through English literacy classes, workforce development and a pathway to citizenship. Your dollars have made a difference for Mayra and many other students with stories just like her’s.
